Dr. Joseph T. Barwick
Civic Award

The Dr. Joseph T. Barwick Civic Award was created in 2010 in honor of Carteret Community College’s third president, Dr. Joe Barwick. This award was developed to recognize volunteers in Carteret County who exemplify similar dedication to community service that Dr. Barwick demonstrated during his tenure as Carteret CC’s president. Examples of these services include community involvement, social responsibility, and helping bring about positive and significant life changes for Carteret County residents.

Any resident of Carteret County can nominate a Carteret County resident who has made a positive difference in the community.

The application must certify that the nominee is a current volunteer of the organization and lives in Carteret County.
The application will describe the volunteer’s activities in the county including positions held within the organization and statements on how the nominee’s activities have contributed to the good of the people of Carteret County.

The nominee cannot be a current member of the Carteret Community College Board of Trustees, the Carteret Community College Foundation Board of Directors, or a Carteret Community College employee or student.
The individual submitting a nomination and the nominee must both be residents of Carteret County.
The application must list the organizations with which the nominee volunteers. Organizations would include, but not be limited to, civic organizations, religious groups, non-profit volunteer organizations, etc. Leadership positions held in the past or present should also be included.
The application must describe how the nominee’s activities in the county have contributed to the good of the people of Carteret County, and the time period over which the nominee has been volunteering.
